Honouring Excellence  

The Newfoundland and Labrador energy has much to be proud of and on Tuesday, May 31 we will be doing so in style with the Energy NL Industry Achievement Awards held during the Annual Conference & Exhibition 2022.

During the gala evening, we will recognize Max Ruelokke for a distinguished career in the Newfoundland and Labrador energy industry through the Energy NL John C. Crosbie Award for Outstanding Contribution. Max is a native Newfoundlander and Labradorian, born and raised in Grand Bank. He is a professional engineer who graduated from Nova Scotia Technical College in 1968. His senior appointments have included President and CEO of Marystown Shipyard Limited, Deputy Minister of the Department of Industry, Trade and Technology and Chairman and CEO of the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board where he led the Board during exceptional circumstances. Max was named as a Fellow by Engineers Canada in 2009, and received the Professional Engineers & Geoscientists Newfoundland and Labrador Award of Merit in 2014.  



Susan Collins of PF Collins International Trade Solutions will be honoured with the Energy NL Rising Star Award. Susan is Vice-President, Business Development of PF Collins International Trade Solutions and in her over 15 years of experience has become a specialist in Canadian trade, project transportation, and overall logistics. She held positions in materials management, project logistics, and corporate tax affairs with Trident Exploration and Pentagon Freight Services in Calgary for seven years before returning to work for PF Collins. Susan has served in a number of volunteer capacities including the Royal St. John’s Regatta Committee since 2010 and is current Chair of Special Olympics Newfoundland and Labrador. She was named a recipient of the 2017 Aidan Maloney Award for Young Professionals by the Rotary Club St. John’s Northwest.




The 2022 recipient of the Energy NL Diversity and Inclusion Award is Aimee Sheppard of Cenovus Energy. Fueled by curiosity and a genuine interest to learn more about people, Aimee’s career journey has been focused in the areas of communications, employee engagement, and community investment. Her focus has always been on creating an environment where people can and want to do their best work and that led to learning more about diversity, equity and inclusion. In her current role, she is directly involved in stewarding to Cenovus’ regulatory commitments in the areas of benefits and diversity and works with contractors and community stakeholders to build a more inclusive industry and community. She holds a Bachelor of Public Relations (Co-op) from Mount Saint Vincent University and a Master of Business Administration from Memorial. 




Miawpukek Horizon Maritime Services Ltd is the recipient of the Energy NL Innovation in Environmental Sustainability Award. Miawpukek Horizon Maritime Services Ltd. (MHMS) is an Indigenous business operating in Atlantic Canada to service emerging opportunities in the local marine industry. MHMS provides valuable and in demand marine services by incorporating Etuaptmumk, two eyed seeing of traditional Indigenous knowledge and Western knowledge, into its daily operations and long-term goals. As an Indigenous organization, it provides maritime solutions that are innovative, inclusive and sustainable. MHMS is a company that has evolved from a relationship that started with the recruitment and development of First Nations seafarers from the Miawpukek First Nation, as Horizon Maritime sought to expand its seafarer network and further diversify its workforce. 


The Energy NL Business Growth Award will be presented to NSB-Omega Group. Founded in Newfoundland & Labrador in 1993 as a local engineering firm, NSB-Omega has grown to become a global technical consulting and staffing services company headquartered in St. John’s. In 2015, the company partnered with Omega365 of Norway, and over the last five years NSB-Omega has undertaken a major expansion, focusing on growth throughout North and South America.  New companies have been formed such as Spirit-Omega and Seabase which are managed by female and Indigenous leaders. Driven by its talented people and its commitment to service quality, NSB-Omega Group has experienced steady growth in business over the pandemic period due to its business diversification and expansion efforts.
